Shalaye FC
is a recurring series of reading groups and open discussions focused on Black media relevant to the current times. Shalaye is a Yoruba word which means ‘to explain’, and these sessions serve as a platform for our community to engage in the critical analysis of various topics on a conversational level, revealing new perspectives and providing deeper insights from our guests and facilitators.

Each programme is developed in collaboration with guest facilitators, and features a selection of articles, books, essays, and poems relevant to the theme of the discussion.

Previous iterations of the programme include ‘You must open window after window’ and ‘Na only you waka come?’.

The selected materials/readings from each programme are available at the library.
