About us

Bootleg Griot is an independent public library project dedicated to mitigating the accessibility of literature and other forms of print media, driven by the desire to actively collect, preserve, and showcase works from artists, collectives, and writers of African descent.

Recognizing the significance of cultural preservation as a tool for understanding and reclaiming ethnic histories, Bootleg Griot functions as a living archive of ideas. Through collaborations with artists and institutions alike, we seek to foster the exchange of ideas and information within our community.

In an effort to maintain public access to these resources, our projects and programmes are free and open to the public.

Bootleg Griot operates as a satellite library, activating through various pop-up installations that reimagine the format, function, and dynamics of a modern public library. Each activation exists as a uniquely curated space and selection of works from our collection.

Bootleg Griot is currently taking up residency at Efie Gallery (Dubai). Our working hours are 11am - 6pm, Monday-Saturday.
