Pattern Making Workshop

Inspired by Konaté’s mastery of fabric as a medium of expression, this hands-on workshop explored the symbolic importance of fabric and patterns in African art and culture. Participants worked with burlap, a material commonly used in coffee storage and transportation, to design and paint their own patterns onto fabric. This choice of material also reflects the relationship between the coffee culture of the Middle East and the Ethiopian coffee bean, one of the largest African exports to the region.

This programme was developed in support of the exhibition, Sambadio, currently on view at Efie Gallery.
